Title: Noumena
Author: Adkins, Mathew
Date: 2000
Type: Sound
Abstract: "Noumena" was a term used by Kant referring to the things that underline our experience both of the physical world and of our own mental state (he calls it: the phenomena of outer and inner senses not objects of possible experience). This work is a number of short discrete sections that play continuously. The sections alternate between "inner" and "outer" senses and are clearly delineated by the playing techniques that the cellist is called on to produce. Sonic Art Network for Judith Mitchell commissioned the work with funds from the Arts Council of Great Britain, realized in the composer's home studio. Prize of the electroacoustic music studio with instruments at the Bourges' Competition.
